Day One: Europe storm into 7-2 lead
By Snoozehughes
After weeks of preparation, the 2nd Annual Virtual
Mosconi Cup has begun! With a huge number of players in GameSpy, the scene was
frantic. The 7 best players from the USA and Europe were ready to collide again!
The proceedings began with the first round of doubles matches and a strong
European performance from Chimpie and Satman1. The excellent standard continued
in the 2nd match, but the form of Joker in particular was just too good and the
USA leveled the match at 1-1. Over the next two doubles matches Gizmo and
PK of
team Europe and ~NK~ Putzy and Joker from the USA, ensured that the scores
remained all-square. Then the European team broke away. Chimpie and myself
romped home against LarryL and Ladyhwk. Meanwhile captain PK and event organiser
Satman1 just edged past PCWizard and ~NK~ CUDA by 5 racks to 4.
Going into the first round of singles matches, the score was Europe 4, USA 2.
The USA had to win the three remaining matches of the day to lead. However,
Europe were on a roll and 'hot-hands' DIGGLER defeated Zero Cool 5-3. To round
off an excellent European evening, 2 more wins followed for Gizmo and Nugget.
So at the half-way stage, Europe need just 5 more points to follow their
real-life Mosconi Cup win last month.
